Hyde Cup: Firm Celebrates Mechanics, Awards N5m Products To Winners

The Hyde Cup, #MechanicsChampionsLeague and #MyMechanicMyHero tournament, organised by Hyde Energy, a global energy trading company with a downstream network renowned for its commitment to providing reliable energy solutions, has finally ended with Agege Radiators winning the trophy in the first edition.

The winners also take home N2m worth of Hyde Energy products.

The Ojota Injectors team was the first runner-up and the Kosofe Camshafts emerged the second runner-up in the league and were awarded with N1.3m and N700,000 worth of products, respectively, while the Most Valuable Players, Golden Boot, Safest Hands, and Best Coach won N250,000 worth of products.

The six-week Hyde Cup serves as an exciting platform to celebrate the talent and dedication of mechanics in the automobile industry.

The competition was initiated to showcase mechanics as heroes, using football as a tool to emphasise their status in the industry.

“This has been an exciting six weeks for us, a journey filled with the undeniable talent of the mechanics,” said the Chief Executive, Hyde Energy, Dimeji Edwards.

“Witnessing the passion, dedication, and sheer athleticism displayed by these mechanics was truly inspiring. The Hyde Cup is not just about football, it is about celebrating the unsung heroes of the automotive industry, the mechanics who keep our engines running and our communities moving.

“We are incredibly proud of the positive impact it has on the mechanic community, and we want to thank the teams for their participation in the tournament and Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), Lagos State, for their unwavering support.”

“The Hyde Cup has been a game-changer for the mechanics in Lagos,” said chairman, NATA, Lagos State, Comrade Moruf Egberongbe.

“This tournament has provided a platform for our members to showcase their skills and sportsmanship to a wider audience and it has brought more recognition and respect to the entire mechanic profession. We are incredibly grateful to Hyde Energy for their vision and commitment to elevating the status of mechanics in Nigeria.”

The match commenced with 16 teams inclusive of Imota Filters, Ikorodu Valves, Kosofe Camshafts, Shomolu Transmission, Ojota Injectors, Ikotun-Igando Ringers, Egbe-Idimu Crankshafts, Ifako-Ijaye Spark Plugs, Alimosho Cool Engines, Amuwo Hunters, Surulere Spanners, Eti-Osa Oilers, Mushin Pistons, Ikeja Cylinders, Oshodi-Isolo Kick Starters and Agege Radiators. Eight teams qualified for the quarter final, Ikorodu Valves, Kosofe Camshafts, Ojota Injectors, Egbe-Idimu Crankshafts, Surulere Spanners, Eti-Osa Oilers, Ikeja Cylinders, and Agege Radiators, while the teams that proceeded to the semi-finals were Ikorodu Valves, Kosofe Camshafts, Ojota Injectors, Egbe-Idimu Crankshafts, Ikeja Cylinders and Agege Radiators.

The battle for third place was an intense match with Kosofe Camshafts and Egbe-Idimu Crankshafts drawing the match with 0-0 in regulation time, however, Kosofe Camshafts emerged victorious with a 3-2 on penalties.

The final match was a true showcase of sportsmanship between Ojota Injectors and Agege Radiators, both teams displaying exceptional skills on the pitch, finishing with a 1-1 draw. Penalty kicks were required to determine the champion. Agege Radiators eventually defeated Ojota Injectors with 2-1 becoming the Hyde Cup champions.
