The Igbo community in Kaduna State has endorsed there-election bid of the governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani in the forthcoming 2027 governorship election.
They received a new bus and N20 million donation from the governor.
The endorsement of Uba Sani was announced at the weekend during the community’s 2026 Igbo Cultural Day celebration at the Nigerian Correctional Service Staff College, Barnawa, Kaduna, where the governor was represented by the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Jerry Adams.
The president-general of the Igbo Community Welfare Association, Kaduna State, Chief Walter Chukwuma-Temple, said the decision to support Sani was informed by his administration’s inclusive leadership, commitment to peaceful coexistence and recognition of the contributions of non-indigenous communities to the state’s development.
Temple said the Igbo community had enjoyed a cordial relationship with the governor, adding that his administration’s disposition towards residents irrespective of their ethnic and religious backgrounds deserved commendation.
He also recalled Sani’s previous donation of an official vehicle and commended him for fulfilling his 2024 promise to provide the association with another bus.
Responding, Sani described the Igbo community as an important stakeholder in Kaduna’s development, acknowledging its contributions to trade, commerce, professional services, investment and job creation.
He said his administration would continue to promote equal opportunities and peaceful coexistence among the state’s diverse communities.
The governor recalled donating a Nissan Serena bus to the association in 2019 when he was the APC senatorial candidate for Kaduna Central, stressing that his relationship with the Igbo community predated his emergence as governor.
He said the latest donation of a bus and N20 million was part of efforts to strengthen that relationship.
He listed completed and ongoing road projects, including the Television Garage-Ungwar-Sunday and Karatudu roads, as interventions to connect residents to markets and economic opportunities.
On the 2027 election, the governor thanked the community for its endorsement, declaring: “Your endorsement is not a favour, but a responsibility to keep earning your confidence through service.”
In a political twist, Adams used the occasion to appeal to the 2027 governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Senator Danjuma La’ah, who attended the celebration, to return to the APC.
