The swimming section of Ikoyi Club 1938 is gearing up to host a year-end competition for young swimmers, with over 200 participants already registered for the event.
More than 10 schools are expected to compete in this tournament, sponsored by NNPC-SNEPCo, aimed at nurturing young talent and preparing them for future challenges.
The annual competition is scheduled for Saturday, 13 December, at the Ikoyi Club’s swimming pool.
Akinbulejo Onabolu, Chairman of the Ikoyi Club Swimming Section, informed reporters on Tuesday that preparations for the competition are well underway.
He expressed gratitude for the ongoing partnership with NNPC-SNEPCo, highlighting the positive impact of the event on the young participants. “We are thrilled to have NNPC-SNEPCo as partners, and it brings us joy to see the smiles on the faces of the children. We are ready for the event.
“It has been a remarkable year for us, and I am looking forward to an exciting competition where the young swimmers will showcase their talents on Saturday,” Onabolu stated.
The competition will feature various events, including freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, individual medley, butterfly, and relays, among others.
According to the programme schedule, warm-up sessions will commence at 8 am on Saturday, with the competition officially starting at 9 am.
“It will be a festive occasion, especially as we are in the Christmas season. We expect a fantastic display from the competitors, and our members are also looking forward to a great time on Saturday,” Onabolu added.
