Illegal Mining Has Worsened Insecurity In Wase – Deputy Speaker

The deputy speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Idris Maje Wase, has attributed the high rate of insecurity in Wase Federal Constituency of Plateau State to illegal mining.

He said the federal government is doing everything humanely possible to tackle it headlong.

He said the activities of illegal mining has worsened the level of insecurity in Wase local government council.

 

“Wherever there are mining activities, there are always acts of criminalities because of the movement of drugs, mining in Wase started in the 1950s,” he said.
Our correspondent reports that communities in Wase local government area of Plateau State has come under attacks by bandits in the past few months leading to the death of several villagers.
Wase made the disclosure while speaking to newsmen at his residence in Jos on Sunday night.
The deputy speaker, who is also the member representing Wase Federal Constituency in the house of representatives further said the federal government is committed to tackling the security challenges occasioned by banditry and insurgency across the country.
In his words, “The role of government is to protect lives and properties, we shall continue to do our best to ensure that this insecurity in my zone is tackled.

“Sometimes ago, I raised a motion on the floor of the Federal house of representatives calling on the Federal government to look into the activities of illegal mining in my constituency, have been vindicated by the present position of the Federal government who is considering a ban on illegal mining in order to tackle insecurity.”
