Imumolen-led Accord Party Nullifies Oyo Governorship Primaries

The Accord Party, led by Prof. Chris Imumolen, has nullified the controversial governorship primaries conducted in Oyo State, declaring that neither Oriyomi Hamzat nor Olakunle Busari is the valid governorship candidate of the party.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Muktar Abdallah, the Imumolen-led leadership described the emergence of two candidates from the same faction as evidence of confusion, greed, money politics, and poor leadership within the Maxwell–Ajaja faction of the party.

The statement accused the factional leadership of imposing illegal party officials driven by personal interests and financial gain, alleging that their inability to properly manage the primary process exposed the party to public ridicule through the emergence of parallel candidates.

According to the statement, the development further reinforced claims by party loyalists that the Maxwell and Ajaja faction lacks legitimacy, discipline, and the moral authority to manage the affairs of a national political party.

Imumolen stated that the crisis surrounding the Oyo governorship primaries would not be ignored, revealing that the authentic leadership of the party had constituted a disciplinary committee to investigate the actions of members accused of bringing embarrassment and dishonour to the party.

The party also announced plans to conduct a fresh, transparent, credible, and unified governorship primary to produce a rightful candidate for Oyo State.

It reiterated its commitment to internal democracy, justice, and the rule of law, insisting that it would not allow selfish interests to undermine the party’s integrity and image.
