The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the online recruitment of ad hoc staff for the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026.

In a notice issued in Abuja on Tuesday, the commission said the application portal opened on April 25 and will close at midnight on May 18, urging eligible Nigerians to apply within the stipulated period.

INEC outlined several categories of positions available for the exercise, including Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs), Presiding Officers (POs), Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs), Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH), and Registration Area Centre (RAC) Managers.

According to the commission, SPO roles are open to federal civil servants and personnel in ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) on Grade Levels 10 to 14, as well as INEC staff within Grade Levels 09 to 14.

For the positions of Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers, eligible applicants include serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), as well as ex-corps members who served between 2022 and 2025.

Other qualified candidates are INEC staff on Grade Levels 07 and 08, MDA staff on Grade Levels 07 to 10, and penultimate students of federal tertiary institutions.

INEC also stated that heads or qualified staff members of institutions hosting registration centres, on Grade Level 07 and above, would serve as RAC Managers.

Meanwhile, the RATECH role is strictly reserved for ICT personnel within the commission who are not already assigned to other election duties.

The commission stressed the importance of neutrality, warning that all applicants must be non-partisan and must not belong to any political party or show public support for any candidate or party.

It added that, except for technical staff under the RATECH category, all applicants must reside in Ekiti State to be considered for the roles.

Prospective applicants are required to complete their registration through INEC’s official portal, while mobile users can also access the application via the designated online platform.

The recruitment marks a key step in preparations for the Ekiti governorship poll, as the commission moves to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.
