The Ifelodun and Edu local government areas of Kwara State have imposed a 24-hour curfew on two communities to curb security challenges.

In Ifelodun council, the curfew order was imposed on Oro-Ago District, while Gbugbu community in Edu LGA was affected.

LEADERSHIP reports that the imposition of the curfew on the two communities followed sustained military operations in Ifelodun and Edu councils to flush out bandits hibernating in the forests in the areas.

The chairman of Ifelodun council, Hon. Femi Yusuf, announced the imposition of the curfew on Oro-Ago district in a statement yesterday.

The statement was signed by the council chairman’s press secretary, Abdulquadri Jimba.

According to the statement, the curfew took effect at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, as part of a coordinated security operation aimed at disorienting suspected terrorists and safeguarding lives and property in the area.

It added that during the curfew period, all human and vehicular movements are strictly prohibited across the district to allow security agencies to carry out an ongoing clearance operation.

The statement assured residents that updates and further reviews of the security measures would be communicated as the situation unfolded.

The chairman of the Edu local government area, Alh Abdullahi Bello, announced the imposition of a curfew on Gbugbu in a statement, saying it took effect on Tuesday.

He explained that the decision was taken to safeguard lives and property as security forces continue operations in areas of interest within the community.

He emphasised that both human and vehicular movements are prohibited during the curfew period, describing the measure as a necessary security measure and assuring that further updates would be provided.

Residents of the affected areas were advised to comply fully with the directives as security agencies carry out their operations.
