Institute Advocates AI Adoption

The president and chairman of the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Ahmed Ladan Gobir, has said that artificial intelligence has evolved from a largely theoretical concept into a key force driving change across multiple sectors.

Speaking in Lagos recently, he emphasised the need for stakeholders to critically engage with both the opportunities and ethical challenges associated with its adoption.

According to Gobir, AI is increasingly influencing decision-making processes, workforce dynamics, and operational efficiency across industries, making it imperative for organisations and professionals to adapt to the rapidly changing technological landscape. He noted that while the technology offers significant potential for innovation, productivity, and economic growth, its deployment must be guided by principles of transparency, accountability, and inclusivity.

He further stressed that the future of work would depend largely on how institutions balance technological advancement with human-centred values, adding that continuous learning, reskilling, and ethical governance frameworks will be essential in ensuring that artificial intelligence serves as a tool for sustainable development rather than a source of inequality or disruption.

Meanwhile, the Institute said its 3rd International Academic Conference, themed “Artificial Intelligence in Academia, Industry and Government: Navigating Ethics, Innovation and Impact,” will focus on the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) across academia, industry, and government, with particular attention to ethics, innovation, and societal impact.

According to the CIPM’s statement recently, the conference will bring together scholars, policymakers, industry professionals, and human resource practitioners to discuss AI’s effects on knowledge systems, economic structures, and governance as discussions at the conference will cover a range of topics, including AI ethics, human-AI collaboration, and sustainability adding that as artificial intelligence continues to influence how societies function and economies grow, the conference aims to contribute to ongoing conversations about its responsible use and long-term implications.
