The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) has underscored the importance of proper change management processes and impact assessment to ensure the success of projects in the country.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of a three-day training and induction program organised for its members in Abuja, registrar of the Governing Council of CIPMN, Henry Mbadiwe, emphasised the need for thorough planning and involvement of licensed project managers at the planning stage of any project.

Mbadiwe highlighted the frequent variation of projects in Nigeria, noting that some projects exceed their budgetary provisions. He stressed that this underscores the importance of proper planning and the involvement of experienced project managers.

The induction of 120 new members into CIPMN was also a focal point of the event. Mbadiwe explained that before these new inductees could practise, they must be licensed and undergo rigorous training and certification.

He stated, “The law establishing CIPMN makes it abundantly clear that every project must be headed by a licensed project manager.”

In addition, Mbadiwe announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CIPMN and the University of Maiduguri. The MoU aims to establish the university as a training hub for project management.

He also disclosed that the CIPMN is in the process of signing MoUs with other institutions across the country to promote project management practice.

Mbadiwe expressed optimism that project management professionals would contribute significantly to national development and emphasised the importance of human capital development in Nigeria.

He also commended President Bola Tinubu and the minister of industry, trade and investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, for their support to the Institute in fulfilling its mandate.

CIPMN is supervised by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and collaborates with various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure alignment with the provisions of the law establishing CIPMN.
