Nigeria’s Institute of Leadership Assessment and Development (ILAD) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising the welfare of military personnel.

It said the bold step of the government would motivate officers and soldiers to secure the country.

The institute praised Tinubu for directing the immediate payment of insurance entitlement owed to the families of officers and soldiers who died while defending the country’s sovereignty.

In a statement issued by the director-general of the institute, Dr Baba Ransome Adamu, he said, “This directive by the president is a testament to a purposeful and pragmatic leadership which will go a long way in boosting the morale of the armed forces.”

He said, “President Tinubu’s interest in the welfare of the security forces will spur them to work harder in fighting the insecurity in the country since they know that their families will never be neglected even if they paid the supreme price.”

ILAD acknowledged the leadership style of the Chief of Defence Staff, (CDS) General Christopher Musa who it says deserves commendation for his resolve in promoting his personnel welfare by giving the presidency firsthand information on the matter.

Adamu said, “This is evident in the recent visit of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to the CDS to align and pledge to accommodate the families of the wounded and fallen heroes into the Federal Government’s poverty alleviation programmes which is the first of its kind.

“We are mindful of the defence chief’s tireless efforts in restoring peace to troubled parts of Kaduna and Niger states. His commitment and motivation of officers and men of the Nigerian military has rid the Abuja-Kaduna expressway of bandits and restored the confidence of motorists plying that corridor.”

Adamu maintained that Musa’s commitment to troops’ welfare “will surely boost the morale of troops currently engaged in combating terrorism, bandits, secessionist and other criminal elements threatening the corporate existence of the nation.”

ILAD called on all the service chiefs to synergize in their joint operations which is key in achieving sustainable action plan against bandits and violent criminals terrorising Nigerians.
