Irate youths in the Idogun community in Ose local government area of Ondo State, on Friday, allegedly launched a violent attack on the Onidogun of Idogun, Oba Moses Bakare, his wife, and their son, Prince Victor Bakare.
The incident reportedly occurred at Ishara Quarters when Prince Victor visited his parents to join in the celebration of the New Yam Festival.
Prince Victor, who spoke to journalists at the palace, displayed visible injuries he claimed were inflicted on him by the youths.
He alleged that the attackers humiliated his family by stripping his mother half-naked, pouring urine and other filthy substances on him, and physically assaulting his father, the king.
For his part, the Onidogun, Oba Bakare, described the assault as a continuation of “unprovoked hostility” from a faction of youths within the community.
He condemned the act as “barbaric and unfortunate,” but commended the timely intervention of police operatives who, alongside Amotekun Corps, quelled the unrest before it escalated.
Confirming the development, the Amotekun Coordinator in the community, Mr Omatayo Johnson, stated that the swift response of security personnel prevented the tension from escalating into a wider crisis.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, stated that the case was under investigation.
According to the PPRO when contacted, he said: “The case is under investigation and we are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served.”
