Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, has accused the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, of not cooperating with his administration amid growing security concerns ahead of the August 2026 governorship election.

The governor made the allegation while speaking during a media chat with select journalists and commenting on recent incidents of violence in the state, claiming that the State Police Command had not responded effectively to politically-motivated attacks in the State.

Expressing disappointment over the situation, Adeleke said the Police Commissioner had failed to work closely with his administration despite efforts by other security agencies.

“I am very, very sad. The Commissioner of Police in Osun State is not cooperating. That’s why we keep having problems. Other agencies are trying, but him in particular, I don’t know what his problem is,” he said.

The governor further alleged that armed political thugs had carried out attacks in parts of the state, citing reports of a recent violent confrontation.

“Right now, I’m told there was a shootout with the thugs. They call them the Assyrians, but the thugs of the APC in Osun, they came outside and started shooting people. It is not acceptable,” he said.

Adeleke, however, said he had continued to urge restraint among his supporters to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state.

“And I’m telling my people to calm down. We don’t want to have emergency job or any chaos and they will start killing. Not that they don’t know about violence, but I’ve tried my best to make sure Osun is calm and there’s no problem. But they are pushing. They keep pushing, killing people,” he said.

The governor also disclosed that he had reached out to top security officials, including military and police authorities, in a bid to restore peace and prevent further violence.

“As I’m talking to you, I’ve called the GOC, I’ve called the Chief of Army Staff, I’ve reported to the IG, I’ve done everything. When I finish right now from here, I’m going to go and have another press conference. Enough is enough,” he added.
