As Nigeria grapples with challenges including hunger which led to the #EndBadGovernance protests, Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) has direct mosques across the country to offer alqunut (special prayers).

National chairman of JIBWIS Nigeria, Sheikh Bala Lau who issued the directive, enjoined the Muslim ummah to engage in continuous Alqunut prayers for the peace and stability of Nigeria.

Alqunut, a form of supplication in Islam, is a powerful prayer for seeking divine help and protection.

It is performed during times of distress or when seeking God’s intervention for a specific purpose.

Sheikh Lau said the call for continuous Alqunut prayers reflects a deep understanding of the spiritual and communal dimensions of addressing these challenges.

He said the practice of Alqunut prayers is rooted in the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW who used it to supplicate for relief and protection during times of difficulty.

He noted that the essence of Alqunut prayers lies in the ability to unite the community in a shared spiritual endeavor, adding, “By collectively turning to God Almighty, Muslims seek His guidance, mercy and intervention.”

Sheikh Lau said the organised approach to Alqunut prayers promotes a sense of cooperation among the Muslim community, adding that as the mosques come together in this spiritual endeavor, it can lead to increased collaboration and mutual support among different groups within the Muslim ummah.

Sheikh Lau said, “In times of national crises such as those currently faced by millions of Nigerians, Alqunut prayers serve as a vital tool for invoking divine assistance and fostering a sense of communal solidarity.”

JIBWIS operates a network of mosques across Nigeria with over 15,000 juma’at mosques and approximately 90,000 daily prayer mosques.  The scale and reach of these mosques provide a unique opportunity to mobilise collective spiritual efforts for national stability.

By directing the over 15,000 juma’at mosques and about 90,000 daily prayer mosques to engage in Alqanut prayers, Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau aims to create a unified spiritual response to the nation’s challenges. This collective effort will not only strengthen the community’s faith, but also foster a sense of shared responsibility for Nigeria’s well-being.
