In preparation for the February 3, 2024 rerun/bye-election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has inaugurated campaign committee chaired by the state deputy governor, Aminu Usman.
At the event held at the state party headquarters, the APC chairman, Hon Aminu Sani Gumel, said the election is very important to the party and described it as an opportunity to reclaim the seat.
Gumel said Governor Umar Namadi after due consultation with all stakeholders approved the constitution of the committee saddled with the responsibility to ensure that the APC win the election for the Birninkudu/Buji federal constituency seat.
Usman promised to mobilise all the stakeholders in the constituency to deliver the task given to them.
He said, the people of Birninkudu/Buji have confidence on APC and its candidate as they enjoyed unprecedented dividends of democracy under them, therefore he is sure of winning the election.
Other members of the committee included: secretary to state government, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, member state assembly Buji constituency, state party chairman, all special advisers and assistants to the governor among others.
During the 2023 general election INEC declared Hon Adamu Yakubu of PDP as winner of the election for Buji/Birninkudu federal constituency, the victory which was challenged by Hon Magaji Da”U Aliyu of All Progressives Congress.
The election tribunal sitting in Dutse ordered for the re-run election at eight polling units and the ruling which was also uphold by Appeal Court mandated INEC to conduct the rerun within three months to determine the winner.
A total number of 5,642 registered voters are expected to participate in the only re-run election scheduled to be held on 3rd February 2024 in Jigawa State.
