The Jigawa State government has constructed over 100 km embankment around flood-prone communities to avert any disaster during this rainy season.
Governor Umar Namadi revealed this during a media chat on his 100 days in office and the journey so far.
The governor said since he assumed office on May 29, 2023, his administration had been reviewing and repositioning the state’s ministries, agencies and departments (MDAs), projects and programmes to build on the legacy of his predecessor.
Namadi said his 12-point agenda was designed to fulfil all the campaign promises as well as make Jigawa prosperous and great in the social and economic spheres.
He said in the pursuit of the agenda, he selected and appointed over 70 special advisers, competent managing directors and commissioners to drive his policies.
The governor said, “Under these agenda, we split the Ministry of Education into two, we reviewed student scholarship to cover minimum of 50 percent of their registration fees, paid registration fees to over 4,000 higher institution students of less privileged families.
“Currently we are working for mass recruitment of teachers both permanent and temporary to address the huge gap in the sector, all to ensure our children received quality and sound education.
“We have also reviewed our Tsangaya (Quranic schools) system, and came up with policy that will integrate it into formal education for addressing out of school children and Almajiri syndrome.”
The governor revealed that in the last 100 days, he had empowered over 4,000 youths and women with a minimum grant of N50,000 while seven skills acquisition centres are under renovation and re-equipping to ensure job creation, poverty eradication and micro economic development.
“On our industrialisation policies, over 50 companies indicated interest to invest in agro-business and mining in the state, out of that, 19 are already on the ground.
“Our agricultural policies have already started with sales of fertiliser to farmers at over 40 percent subsidized price, procurement of 60 units of tractor, expanding cluster farming programme, and the provision of improved seeds and other farm implements at affordable and accessible prices,” he said.
