Jigawa Medical Varsity Emerges As Nigeria’s 70th State University

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has recognised the Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences, Majia, as the 70th state-owned university in the Nigerian University System.

Presenting the letter of recognition to the institution yesterday, the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, congratulated the government and people of Jigawa State on the establishment of the university.

Ribadu said the creation of the specialised institution was timely, particularly in view of Nigeria’s growing need for more qualified healthcare professionals.

The establishment of the Jigawa State University of Medical and Allied Health Sciences is a timely intervention that will contribute significantly to addressing the shortage of healthcare professionals in the country,” he said.

The NUC Executive Secretary reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting the university through its quality assurance mechanisms to ensure that it meets the required academic standards and delivers quality education.

He also urged the Jigawa State Government to provide adequate and sustained funding for the institution, stressing that sufficient investment would be crucial to its growth and long-term success.

“The State Government must ensure adequate funding to enable the university to realise its full potential as a centre of excellence in medical education, training and research,” Ribadu said.
