Jigawa State government plans to integrate Tsangaya system (Quranic schools) into its formal education system to address out-of-school children and almajiri menace.

Governor Umar Namadi revealed this during a media chat on his first 100 days in office and the journey so far.

He said under his 12-point agenda, emphasis would be placed on human capital development to make the youths more productive and prepared to face contemporary challenges.

Namadi said under the agenda the state education sector will be reviewed to make it more inclusive, vibrant and modern.

“All aspects of learning will be included, reading and writing will be encouraged in different languages, while skills acquisition will be accorded priority.

“Under this policy Tsangaya system will be integrated into formal system to address out of school children by supporting people to learn reading and writing as well as skills of their own choice.

“For the Tsangaya, I have already appointed three special advisers one from each of our senatorial districts to assist in the implementation of the policy which we believe will make a difference and help Jigawa to become prosperous and great as everybody is carried along,” he said.

Governor Namadi revealed that to achieve the desired goals the state education sector was split into two, namely Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Basic Education with clear agenda and mandate to everyone.

“Currently we are working for mass recruitment of teachers both permanent and temporary to address the huge gap in the sector, all to ensure our children received quality and sound education,” Governor Namadi declared.
