The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Kogi State chapter, on Wednesday held a special prayer session for lasting peace in Nigeria and Kogi State, seeking divine intervention to end the country’s lingering security challenges and ensure peaceful conduct of the 2027 general elections.

The prayer session, held in Lokoja, brought together members of JNI and other Islamic organisations from across the state, who also offered prayers for leaders at both the state and federal levels.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, the chairman of JNI in Kogi State, Ambassador Usman Bello, said the prayers were necessary because peace remains the foundation for meaningful development in any society.

According to him, no nation or state can attain sustainable growth in an atmosphere of insecurity and instability, stressing the need for continuous prayers for the country and its leaders.

He urged Muslims to make praying for those in authority a regular practice, describing it as a divine injunction that should be observed by every faithful.

Ambassador Bello noted that beyond offering criticism, citizens should seek God’s guidance for leaders so they can make decisions that would promote peace, unity and development.

The Islamic faithful also prayed for Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, asking Allah to grant him wisdom, strength and divine guidance in steering the affairs of Kogi State for the benefit of the people.

Similarly, they offered prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of his administration, seeking divine direction and wisdom for them to effectively pilot the affairs of the nation.

The gathering further sought God’s intervention in the nation’s security situation, praying for divine protection and success for security agencies in their efforts to overcome criminal elements threatening the peace of the country.

On the 2027 general elections, the clerics and worshippers prayed for a peaceful, free and credible electoral process that would produce leaders chosen in accordance with God’s will.

The special prayer session was led by the Chief Imam of the JNI Juma’at Mosque, Alhaji Usman Tauheed, alongside other Islamic scholars drawn from different parts of Kogi State, who offered supplications for unity, stability and continued progress of the state and the nation.
