Idahosa Trains With Edo Queens, Charges Team To Conquer WAFU-B Again

Idahosa took part in the training session at the club’s closed camp on Tuesday evening in a show of support for the players as they intensify preparations for the regional tournament.

According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Friday Aghedo, the deputy governor commended Edo Queens for emerging champions of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership after winning the Super Six tournament in Port Harcourt.

He urged the players to replicate the determination, resilience and team spirit that earned them the domestic title as they bid to secure qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Idahosa also reaffirmed Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to sports development, describing sport as a powerful tool for youth empowerment and social development.

He disclosed that the governor would soon host the team at Government House to celebrate and reward them for bringing honour to Edo State and Nigeria.

“I am here today to appreciate and encourage you for making us proud by becoming champions of the NWFL Premiership,” Idahosa said.

“I also want to assure you that all the promises made by the Edo State Government under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo remain intact.

“The Governor has returned from his trip abroad, and very soon he will invite you to Government House, where you will be appropriately rewarded and appreciated. On behalf of the Edo State Government, I thank you immensely for making us proud.”

Responding on behalf of the team, captain Deborah Odiagbe described the deputy governor’s visit as a huge morale booster ahead of the WAFU-B qualifiers.

She recalled that during an earlier meeting with Idahosa, alongside head coach Moses Aduku, the deputy governor had insisted that nothing short of winning the league title would be acceptable.

“We returned to work harder, planned well and, by the grace of God, we won the league title,” Odiagbe said.

The captain vowed that Edo Queens would travel to Burkina Faso with the ambition of lifting the WAFU-B trophy rather than merely participating.

Edo Queens will represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers, with the tournament winners earning a place at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
