Zamfara State
Zamfara State governor-elect, Dauda Lawal is one of the newcomers. He was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He defeated the incumbent Governor Bello Matawalle.
Road To Government House:
Lawal polled 377,726 votes to defeat the incumbent governor, Bello Matawalle who got 311,976 votes. He was one of those who displaced an incumbent governor. His victory was seen largely as being against the run of play considering that APC had won the presidential election in the state. More so, all the political heavyweights in the state are in APC.
What To Expect:
“Let me emphasise that the whole essence of the contest for me is to rescue Zamfara State. As you are all aware, Zamfara is facing serious security challenges which are really disturbing and nothing is happening in the state,” he added.
Ogun State
Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is one of the governors reelected for the second term. He was elected governor of Ogun State in 2019.
Road To Government House
Abiodun was re-elected after polling a total of 276,298 votes to defeat his closest challenger and PDP candidate Ladi Adebutu who got a total of 262,383 votes. Abiodun’s narrow win can be attributed in part to the opposition he got within his party, especially from his immediate successor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
What To Expect:
Dapo Abiodun, has commended the people of the state saying that his victory is a further challenge to deliver on the manifesto of the All Progressives Congress (APC), even as he promised that he would continue with the government of inclusiveness that has been the hallmark of his Administration in the last four years.
He reiterated his Administration’s commitment to principle of equity, fairness and justice, maintaining that his Administration would not be characterized by favoritism, nepotism and lopsidedness in situating developmental projects in all the four zones and three senatorial districts of the state.
Taraba State
Taraba State governor-elect, Agbu Kefas of the PDP is also another newcomer, he is a retired Nigerian Army lieutenant colonel and the former PDP state chairman.
Road To Government House:
Agbu won the election having polled 257,926 votes while Prof. Sani Yahaya, of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP) polled 202,277 votes as first runner up.
What To Expect:
Speaking after the declaration, elated Agbu, thanked voters of the state for keeping faith with the PDP and reaffirming the party’s dominance at the poll.
He also assured that his administration will hit the ground running from day one immediately he assumes office.
Ebonyi State:
Francis Nwifuru of the APC won the governorship election in the state. He is the current Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
Road To Government House:
Nwifuru garnered a total of 199,131 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Ifeanyi Odii of the PDP who got a total of 80,191 votes to place second. Although the Labour Party won the presidential election in the state, Nwifuru had an easy ride to the government house, thanks to the political sagacity of the state governor, Dave Umahi and the disorganized opposition in the state.
What To Expect:
Mr Nwifuru in his acceptance speech declared his unalloyed loyalty to the patriotic citizens of Ebonyi State for electing him and promised never to disappoint them.
