Nigerian gospel singer Judith Kanayo-Opara, best known as ‘Judikay’, has opened up about a frightening experience she faced while 34 weeks pregnant with her second child in Canada.

The singer said a routine ultrasound raised serious concerns about her unborn daughter.

Speaking during her daughter’s dedication service, she recalled being told by a sonographer that the baby was not breathing and had no nose. She was also advised to undergo a Down syndrome test.

Judikay said she immediately contacted her husband. According to her, he told her to ‘tear up the report’ and not go ahead with any further tests.

She said:

“At 34 weeks, I travelled to Canada to have my baby, and I went for a scan. They said she did not have a nose and that I would need to do a Down syndrome test, and also that she was not breathing. I called my husband, and he said I should tear the report and that we were not going to do any test.”

The couple said they chose to pray and give thanks for their unborn child. Their daughter was later delivered safely. Doctors, however, discovered that the umbilical cord had been wrapped around the baby’s neck twice during pregnancy.

Judikay shared the testimony while reflecting on her pregnancy journey. The singer, who waited several years to welcome a second child with her husband, spoke about the challenges she faced before her daughter’s birth.
