A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has admitted a former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to bail.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned the former number one banker on a six-count amended charge.

Emefiele was arraigned before Justice Hamza Muazu.

Last week, after his arraignment, the ruling on his bail application was fixed for Wednesday.

In his ruling, the court admitted Emefiele to bail in the sum of N300m with two sureties who must be resident of Abuja and have landed property within the Maitama District of the FCT.

Recall that at the last adjourned date, Emefiele’s Counsel, Mathew Burkaa, SAN, had moved the application for his bail, but Rotimi Oyedepo, the EFCC counsel, opposed the application on behalf of the EFCC.

After Counsels in the matter made their arguments, Justice Muazu said he needed a little time to study the exhibits supplied by Emefiele to support his request for bail.
