The ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has suspended some of its members, including a Senator and three other federal lawmakers, over alleged anti-party activities.

The State chairman of NNPP, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, disclosed this to journalists in Kano on Monday, expressing the party’s disappointment with the conduct of the affected lawmakers.

The suspended lawmakers include Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South in the Senate, as well as three members of the House of Representatives, namely Alhaji Abdullahi Sani Rogo (Rogo Federal Constituency), Alhaji Abdullahi Rurum (Rano/Kibiya Federal Constituency), and Ali Madakin Gini (Dala Federal Constituency).

According to Dungurawa, the lawmakers were granted party tickets during the last elections, yet they allegedly acted contrary to the party’s interests and values.

LEADERSHIP reports one of the incidents that triggered the suspension was the recent invitation of prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, including the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, alongside former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau to private events hosted by Senator Sumaila. The events included his daughter’s wedding and the maiden graduation ceremony of students at his private university in Sumaila LGA.

The presence of the APC leaders at the gatherings, while members of the NNPP were reportedly excluded, has sparked speculation about Sumaila’s possible defection back to the APC.

Expressing his dismay, Dungurawa stated, “The Kano State governor and Senator Kwankwaso have held several events, but they did not attend or send an excuse for their absence, yet some of them are seen getting along with our political rivals.”

The NNPP chairman also announced that the party would set up a committee to investigate the matter and determine further actions.

However, he noted that despite the suspension, the affected members still have the opportunity to seek reconciliation. “If they seek forgiveness, the party may reconsider its decision,” the NNPP chairman added.
