Hundreds of youths in Kaduna yesterday protested to demand a probe into the administration of former governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over alleged financial mismanagement and the disappearance of Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata.
The protesters who marched through major streets of the state capital, said their action was driven by the need to ensure justice, transparency and accountability in governance, particularly over the unresolved circumstances surrounding Dadiyata’s disappearance.
Addressing journalists, convener of the protest, Anas Yusuf, maintained that the demonstration was not politically motivated but anchored on the demand for justice for victims of insecurity and alleged abuse of power in the state.
He stressed that the continued uncertainty surrounding Dadiyata’s fate remained unacceptable, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to unravel the mystery and bring those responsible to justice.
Dadiyata, a lecturer at the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, was declared missing on August 1, 2019 after gunmen abducted him from his residence in Kaduna.
The youths also demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged misappropriation of about N432 billion under the previous administration, noting that efforts to promote transparency would only be credible if past financial dealings were scrutinised.
