A Magistrate Court sitting at Nomansland in Kano has remanded two residents of Dorayi Chiranci for allegedly giving false information to the public over the killing of a family of seven last weekend.

The two accused, Abubakar, also known as Bala Honourable, and Munnir Yahaya, both neighbours of the deceased victims, were arraigned before the Court by the Kano State Police Command.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arraignment in a post on his Facebook handle on Friday.

The two men, who were neighbours of the murdered family, gave misleading accounts to separate media platforms regarding what transpired during the attack and about the arrest of principal suspects linked to the murder.

The accused falsely claimed to have sighted and assisted in the arrest of the suspects at the crime scene, statements which were later found to be untrue.

In a video earlier posted on the Facebook page of the police spokesperson, Bala publicly recanted his earlier claims, admitting that he lied during an interview with journalists.

“I am so sorry. Everything I said in that interview was a lie. I appeal to the public to pardon me for the lies I told,” Bala said.

The second accused, Munnir, had also claimed in a separate interview that he assisted in capturing a suspect identified as Umar, whom he alleged returned to the house after Maghrib prayers, opened the lock and entered the premises.

However, CSP Kiyawa disclosed that Munnir misrepresented the facts, noting that the individual apprehended had no connection to the crime. Munnir admitted that the person apprehended was actually named Rabiu, not Umar as earlier claimed.

“I didn’t realize he was not involved when we held him. I apologize to him for this; it was a misunderstanding,” Munnir said.

The court ordered both accused to be remanded in prison custody until February 4, 2026, for the continuation of their trial.
