The Kano State House of Assembly has formally withdrawn its notice of impeachment against the immediate-past deputy governor of the State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, following his resignation from office.

The decision was reached during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore, after a motion was moved by the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini, to the effect.

Addressing journalists shortly after the sitting, Hon. Hussaini said the withdrawal was in line with Order 3, Rule 6A of the House Rules, noting that the former deputy governor’s voluntary resignation made further legislative action unnecessary.

“We have withdrawn all charges against him, and the matter has been laid to rest. We will no longer pursue these offences because our role is limited to removing an official if found guilty. Since he has voluntarily resigned, how can we continue? We are not the EFCC or ICPC; our mandate has been fulfilled,” he stated.

Gwarzo’s resignation followed earlier moves by the State Assembly to impeach him over allegations bordering on gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust. The impeachment process was initiated on March 5, 2026.

While presenting the petition at the time, Hussaini explained that the proceedings were initiated in accordance with Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The allegations were linked to Abdulsalam’s tenure as Commissioner for Local Government Affairs between 2023 and 2024, during which he was accused of committing various irregularities.

LEADERSHIP reports that with the withdrawal of the impeachment notice, the Assembly has effectively brought the matter to a close.
