A delegation of Kano business leaders and senior government officials has appealed to the federal government to expedite the release of the N5 billion relief fund approved for victims of the devastating Singer Market fire disaster.

The appeal was made during a meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson to the Kano State governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the delegation urged the federal government to fast-track the disbursement of the intervention fund to support traders whose businesses were destroyed by the inferno.

The delegation recalled the federal government’s earlier commitment to provide financial assistance to thousands of affected traders, stressing that the timely release of the fund would help restore livelihoods and revive commercial activities in the market.

It also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the intervention package and appealed for the completion of all administrative processes to enable beneficiaries access the funds without further delay.

Members of the delegation included President of the Association of Kano Business Community, Alhaji Sabiu Bako; Kano State Commissioner for Finance, Dr Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya; APC National Ex-Officio, Hon. Muhammad Jamu Yusuf; Chairman of Singer Market, Barrister Junaidu Muhammad Zakari; and businessman, Alhaji Kabiru Adamu Gano.
