Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating tuberculosis (TB) through sustained interventions and strengthened healthcare services.

The Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, stated this during activities to mark the World TB Day 2026 in Kano.

He described TB as a major public health concern, noting that the state has continued to intensify efforts aimed at preventing and controlling the disease.

According to him, tuberculosis is airborne and spreads easily if not properly managed, adding that common symptoms include persistent cough, excessive sweating and severe weight loss.

Yusuf said the state government is implementing strategic measures to eliminate the disease, including the renovation of Yada Kunya General Hospital to boost treatment capacity and improve patient care.

He commended the governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for prioritising the health sector and supporting initiatives targeted at tackling communicable diseases.

The commissioner disclosed that 913 persons were diagnosed with TB in the state in the past year, out of which 720 have been successfully treated, reflecting improved outcomes in case management.

He further revealed that development partners have provided mobile healthcare vehicles to the state government to enhance outreach services, particularly in underserved communities.

Yusuf urged residents to seek early medical attention when symptoms are noticed, stressing that prompt diagnosis and treatment remain key to ending the spread of the disease.

He added that with sustained commitment and collective action, tuberculosis can be effectively eliminated.
