Kano State governor, Engr Abba Yusuf has renamed the Kano State Sports Institute and the state Sport Commission after the 22 athletes who died while returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
The institute and commission would henceforth change to Kano State 22 Athletes Sports Institute and Kano State 22 Athletes Sports Commission.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad, said Governor Yusuf the Kano people were proud of the sacrifice of the late athletes and be remembered forever.
Governor Yusuf made this known when he recieved on courtesy visit, Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi  Tinubu and her team, who donated N110 million to the families of the 22 Athletes.
Governor Yusuf noted that the government will take care of the victims children’s education, additng that their wives would be engaged in empowerment schemes while parents of those who are single wold also be taken care of.
