The Kano State Police Command has arrested a wanted notorious thug leader, Sunusi, widely known as Dawa Dan Kamsusi, alongside nine other suspected members of his criminal gang, for alleged involvement in various criminal activities across parts of the state.
The arrests followed a formal complaint submitted on January 5, 2026, by the Hannu Da Yawa Youth Development Association Bachirawa (HADAYA), according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Friday.
In the petition addressed to the police, the association raised alarm over what it described as persistent criminal activities in Bachirawa, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Zango, Kunture and neighbouring communities of Kano. The letter, as quoted in the police release, partly read: “Despite repeated complaints and concerns raised by community members, these criminal activities persist and appear to be escalating. I respectfully appeal to your office to urgently investigate these allegations and take appropriate action in accordance with the law to restore peace and security.”
Following receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed operatives of the Command’s Anti-Daba Unit to go after the suspects. The police said the team “swung into action with renewed vigour and determination” under the direct supervision of the CP.
The statement noted that sustained intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Sunusi Dawa Kamsusi, a 26-year-old resident of Bachirawa Quarters, Kano. It added that three knives and a suspected charm were recovered from him, while nine other members of his syndicate were later trailed and arrested.
According to the release, the suspect confessed during investigation to “a series of armed robberies, mobile phone snatching, shop and house breaking, and theft, among others.” The police disclosed that about 30 persons have so far lodged complaints against the suspects.
The Command said the suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
CP Bakori, the statement added, commended the officers involved in the operation and appreciated community members for their cooperation, noting that their support “led to the success of the investigation.”
The Kano State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating thuggery and other criminal activities across the state.
