Three students of the Federal University of Lafia were abducted by gunmen on Monday night, the Nasarawa State Police Command said Tuesday.

The police however said one the students  has been rescued.

The incident occurred at about 9:20 p.m. on July 7 at Living Seed Lodge, located in a bushy area on the outskirts of the students’ residential community in Lafia.

The Command said it received a distress call from the Chief Security Officer of the university reporting that unidentified armed persons had taken three students from the lodge.

Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed immediately deployed tactical teams, patrol operatives, and other security personnel to the scene.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Ramhan Nansel said  coordinated search-and rescue operation was launched in the surrounding forest.

SP Nansel added that the operation led to the rescue of one of the abducted student, while two others remain in captivity.

He quoted CP Mohammed to have  directed all operational and intelligence assets of the Command to sustain the operation until the remaining victims are rescued unharmed.

“No effort will be spared in bringing the criminals to justice,” the Command stated.

The police urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and to report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.

LEADERSHIP reports that Living Seed Lodge is an off campus residence outside the university’s main perimeter.

FULafia has recorded similar abductions in off-campus communities in recent years due to limited hostel accommodation.

The identities of the students have not been released.Security patrols have been intensified around student residential areas in Lafia.
