Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris, has inaugurated a committee to investigate salary payments and the implementation of the new minimum wage for primary school teachers across the state.

The governor’s chief oress secretary disclosed this in a statement made available on Monday in Birnin-Kebbi.

The committee was officially inaugurated at the Government House Chamber on Monday.

Governor Idris said the move followed concerns raised during engagements with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and a recent town hall meeting, stressing his administration’s commitment to fairness and accountability.

“I have a personal interest in this committee. I know how much the teachers were earning before, and I also know how much I approved as their new minimum wage,” he said.

He charged members of the panel to carry out their assignment diligently and without bias, warning that no form of compromise would be tolerated.

“I trust the committee members. That is why I carefully selected credible individuals who will do the job thoroughly and professionally,” he added.

The governor said the panel would identify the actual grievances of primary school teachers regarding salary payments and examine funding allocations from local governments to Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).

It will also review funding levels before and after the implementation of the new minimum wage and investigate any irregularities affecting salary disbursement.

“The committee is to confirm whether there are any infractions capable of undermining the integrity of funds released to LGEAs,” Idris said.

He added that the panel would also identify those responsible for salary placement issues and recommend appropriate sanctions where necessary.

The governor said the committee has one month to submit its report.

The seven-member panel is chaired by Prof. Malami Shehu Gulumbe, with a representative of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs serving as secretary.
