Following last Thursday’s Appeal Court judgement which reaffirmed Ahmed Usman Ododo as the governor of Kogi State, the Action Alliance (AA) governorship candidate in the November 2023 election, Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, has vowed to challenge the verdict at the Supreme Court to seek justice.

Recall that the Election Tribunal had affirmed Ododo’s electoral victory being the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate at the poll conducted by the declaration of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

But Braimoh, in a statement, expressed disbelief at the Appeal court judgment, saying he believes the Apex court is the only way to ensure victory for democracy and the people of Kogi State.

The AA candidate said the Appeal Court’s dismissal of his petition against the APC candidate on technical grounds is not convincing enough to him.

He stated that the evidence provided by his team clearly shows that the electoral process was manipulated by the ruling party and INEC, and he had hoped that the Appeal Court would have overturned the tribunal’s earlier verdict.

“Our decision to take this case to the Supreme Court demonstrates our unwavering commitment to upholding democracy and fighting against electoral malpractice. We believe that the people of Kogi State deserve a fair and transparent election process, free from manipulation and interference. By pursuing this case at the highest court in the land, we are sending a clear message that we will not back down in our quest for justice and accountability.

“Our determination to seek justice at the Supreme Court also highlights our belief in the rule of law and the importance of upholding the integrity of the electoral process. Despite facing setbacks at the lower courts, we remain resolute in our belief that the truth will prevail and that the people of Kogi State will ultimately have their voices heard”, Braimoh stated.

“In taking this case to the Supreme Court, we are not only fighting for my own candidacy but also for the future of democracy in Kogi State. We are standing up against corruption and injustice, and we are determined to ensure that the will of the people is respected and upheld.

“My decision to pursue this legal battle to the highest level demonstrates courage, determination, and commitment to serving the people of Kogi State with integrity and honesty,” the AA candidate said.
