The proprietor and principal of Daarulkitab Islamic Training Centre, Mohammed Tajudeen, has refuted claims by the Kogi State government that his school is unregistered.

He insisted that the institution is duly registered with relevant authorities.

Tajudeen made the clarification following the abduction of 26 persons, including pupils, from the school and its orphanage facility on Sunday night.

Security agencies had earlier confirmed that 17 of the victims had been rescued, while efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the remaining abductees.

In a statement on Monday, the state government described the incident as unfortunate and alleged that the affected school was not registered.

However, Tajudeen dismissed the claim, stating that the institution is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Ministry of Women Affairs.

“I have documents to back our registration.

Daarul Kitab was registered separately,” he said.

He further disclosed that seven students and two matrons are still in captivity, adding that the abductors also took away his two wives to an unknown destination.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the school late Sunday night, firing sporadically to create panic among residents and security operatives before carrying out the abduction.

The school management, alongside parents and members of the community, has appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the remaining victims.
