The member representing Yagba East Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon Emmanuel Obaro, has flagged off a ₦16 million empowerment programme as part of activities marking his second anniversary in office.
The initiative, which benefited 400 small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), artisans and traders, had each recipient receiving a cash support of ₦40,000.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Isanlu, the lawmaker said the intervention was part of his continued effort to stimulate local economic development and improve the livelihoods of his constituents.
“This empowerment programme is a demonstration of our commitment to the economic welfare of our people. We have prioritised support for small businesses because we believe they are the backbone of our local economy,” he said.
The lawmaker added that the scheme was deliberately structured to reach grassroots entrepreneurs who are often excluded from formal financial support systems.
Stakeholders at the event described the gesture as timely, with several community leaders commending the lawmaker for focusing on people-centered projects.
The empowerment is among a series of constituency interventions undertaken by the lawmaker over the past two years, which include education support, healthcare outreaches, infrastructure projects, and youth engagement.
He reiterated his resolve to attract more projects and partnerships that would positively impact the lives of the people of Yagba East.
