Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Aliyu Umar Yusuf, has charged chairmen and members of House Standing Committees to focus on their oversight functions with a view to ensuring that expenditures are within the scope of the approved budget by the House.
The speaker who gave the charge while welcoming members from their annual recess, stressed that the 8th Assembly must continue to stand as a beacon of service, accountability, and progress.
Speaking further he said “On this note, I seek the cooperation of heads of MDAs in the state and their staff with House Committees to ensure a robust Legislative-Executive relationship that will sustain mutuality and promote growth and development of Kogi State.
“Colleagues, as we reconvene, I call on all of us to continue to put the interests of our people above all else. Let us commit ourselves afresh to the service of our constituents.
“Our duty is to work together to make laws that improve the lives of the people, provide strong representation, and ensure effective oversight of the executive.
“In this regard, I must commend the Executive Arm of Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. His continuous implementation of people-oriented policies has strengthened governance and made our party, the APC, more attractive to the people of Kogi State.
We must continue to collaborate with the Executive for the growth and progress of our state.
“To my colleagues, I thank you for your dedication to quality oversight, which has kept ministries, departments, and agencies accountable to the people of Kogi State.
“On my part, I pledge to remain committed to the unity, stability, and progress of this Assembly. I will not let you down, and I will not let the people of Kogi State down.
“I also urge us all to roll up our sleeves and develop innovative ideas and legislative frameworks that will shape policies for good governance in Kogi State.”
Thereafter, the speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon.Aliyu Umar, supervised the swearing in of the newly elected member, representing Okura state constituency in Dekina local government area of the state, Hon. Hassan Shado of the All Progressives Congress, (APC)
The new member replaced Late Enema Paul, a former deputy speaker of the Assembly, who died last year after a brief illness.
The State Assembly early this year had declared vacant, the Okura state constituency seat in the Assembly via a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).
Hon. Shado had emerged winner of the election held on 17th August , 2025 and was returned elected.
Speaking shortly after the swearing in Hon.Shado promised to give his constituency, effective and adequate representation, by initiating bills that will enhance the welfare of his people.
