Argentina, who also reached finals in 1930, 1990, and 2014, joined Germany as the joint-most runners-up (four). Post-match scuffles broke out as Spain celebrated, with Leandro Paredes needing to be pulled away by coach Lionel Scaloni after clashing with Eric Garcia and Gavi.
Kroos, who beat Argentina in the 2014 final, made his swipe hours after the final whistle.
