Nigeria’s Super Falcons stormed into the third round of the African qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games after thrashing Comoros 5-0 in the second leg at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
The emphatic victory on Tuesday sealed a commanding 7-0 aggregate win for the 10-time African champions, who had defeated Comoros 2-0 in the first leg.
Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu scored twice each, while Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty as Nigeria underlined their superiority over their opponents.
The Super Falcons broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when Payne finished off a well-worked move, converting Kanu’s assist to give the hosts a deserved lead before half-time.
Nigeria maintained their attacking momentum after the restart, with Kanu doubling the advantage in the 57th minute through a well-placed header from Folashade Ijamilusi’s cross.
Payne struck again seven minutes later, finishing off a pass from Blessing Okpe in the 64th minute to make it 3-0.
Kanu completed her brace in the 67th minute, rising to head home another inviting delivery from Ijamilusi as the Super Falcons continued to dominate.
Nigeria’s fifth goal arrived in the 72nd minute after Okpe was fouled inside the penalty area. Ucheibe stepped up and calmly converted the spot-kick to complete the rout.
The result sends Nigeria into the third round, where they will face Morocco in a crucial tie as they continue their quest to qualify for the women’s football tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
