A Magistrate Court sitting in Ebute-Metta, Lagos State, on Tuesday, directed the Police to send the case file of a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamusideen Oladiti, a.k.a Shamelon, to the state’s Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The police brought Oladiti before the court on a three-count charge over the alleged murder of a dispatch rider, Imam Ramon.

The 55-year-old unionist is facing allegations of unlawful homicide, conspiracy, and grievous assault.

The tragic incident that occurred on August 27 at Lewis Street, Lagos Island, generated widespread public outrage after a viral video surfaced.

The police are accusing the defendant of assaulting the dispatch rider by delivering repeated fist blows to him, and that the victim later succumbed to his injuries at Lagos Island General Hospital in Marina.

He was also accused of conspiring with others who remained at large to commit a felony on September 17, as well as separately assaulting another victim, Omale Samuel, causing severe harm.

However, Oladiti’s plea was not taken because the Magistrate Court was not constitutionally empowered to try the crimes.

Based on the fact, the Magistrate ordered the prosecutor, Superintendent of Police, Anthony Iyeye, to duplicate the case file and send it to the DPP within 30 days for advice on prosecution.

The case has been adjourned to October 28 for a report.
