Lagos Outage: EKEDC Begins Repairs After Gas Explosion

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company has announced ongoing efforts to restore electricity in parts of Lagos following a major outage caused by a fire incident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

In a statement released on Saturday, the company said the disruption occurred after a vehicle collided with a stationary gas tanker, triggering a fire that caused extensive damage to key infrastructure.

According to EKEDC, the blaze affected the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, damaging critical conductors and overhead line equipment, which led to a widespread power outage in the affected areas.

“Our technical team is working diligently to replace the damaged components and restore power supply as quickly and safely as possible. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused,” the statement read.

The company listed affected locations to include Medallion Feeder areas, Sangotedo, Majek, Fidiso, Awoyaya, Container, Eputu, Lagasa, Losoro, Kajola, and Onisan, all connected to the Ibeju 33kV feeder.

The outage follows a tragic gas explosion earlier in the Ajah axis of Lagos, which reportedly claimed two lives and destroyed several properties, including warehouses and roadside shops.

The explosion occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Tera Ahmed bus stop, Sangotedo, after a collision involving a gas tanker and a tipper truck.

Residents in the impacted communities have been advised to remain cautious as repair works continue, while EKEDC engineers work to safely restore electricity to homes and businesses.
