The Jigawa state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared the opposition led by a former governor of the state, Sule Lamido, as insignificant, saying it does not pose a threat to the ruling party.

Jigawa APC chairman, Ahmad Garba made the declaration after submitting the expression of interest and nomination forms for Governor Umar Namadi in Abuja.

Accompanied by federal lawmakers and party’s stakeholders, Garba said Lamido’s son, Mustapha had contested the 2023 governorship election against Namadi but was roundly defeated and 2027 would not be different.

“We have done this last time.

For the last four years, it’s his son that contested for the election. Out of 26 local governments that we have, he only won one. Even that the margin was only 1,000.

“So you are just looking at him at the upper level. But when you go down, he’s not as far as the politics in Jigawa is concerned. We know him. We grew up together. We know him very well. So there is nothing to worry about,”the APC chairman said.

Garba also said adoption of consensus primary election by the Jigawa APC followed due process and it was rancour free.

“The state APC, we had two committees -one at the local government level so that they can sit down with the contestants to agree on some few individuals like three members from the local government so that they can submit their report to the state. So that is what we have done. We have selected three, three from each local government for all the offices.

“Then at the state level we have a high delegation of the members of the committee headed by the former governor of the state, Barrister Ali Sa’ad, which we go through, scrutinise all the candidates and come up with one single candidate.

“In short, Jigawa we have done consensus. And the consensus is free, no rancour, nothing. So we are very happy the way our people agree on the arrangements,”he stated.

Speaking on behalf of National Assembly members, the lawmaker representing Jigawa state which comprise Madori/Kaugama Federal Constituency

Hon. Hon Abubakar Makki Yalleman, said the governors performance made the party stable in the state, hence the indisputable consensus.

“Our governor is different from all the governors because he served as a commissioner of finance in Jigawa. He served as a deputy governor and now a first timer in his office for four years.

“Then we all unanimously agree to endorse him and Mr President to go and contest for the second term because of the good things that they are doing. Our governor came up with the 12-point agenda in which before even his term has finished, he has accomplished those 12-point agenda,”he said.
