The North Eastern Youths Advocacy for Peace and Development has opposed the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) for threatening to work against the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

The group, in a statement issued by its convener, Salahudeen Shuaibu, criticised the northern elders for their hostile behaviour toward the Tinubu presidency, describing it as unfortunate and a calculated attempt to divert the president’s attention away from what he was elected to do.

The group noted that Tinubu has worked tirelessly since taking office to rebuild the country’s economy, reduce insecurity, improve education, boost agriculture, and repair the battered image in the eyes of the international community.

Salahudeen stated that the president’s efforts should be commended rather than condemned, and he warned that the youths of the geo-political region will not tolerate any further insults and mudslinging directed at the president.

The group also urged northern leaders to offer useful suggestions that will help the country’s development rather than make incendiary remarks about the country. They cautioned that it is not in anyone’s best interests to harm the reputation of the country’s president and, by extension, the nation.

The group however supported the nation’s defence minister, Muhammad Bello Mattawalle, for characterising the Northern Elders Forum as a collection of political heavyweights with no real political significance in the north and consequently, the nation.
