LG Funds: Lawyer Hails Tinubu, Says Democracy Righted

A lawyer and business consultant, Sir Chyma Anthony, has hailed President Bola Tinubu over the ruling of the Supreme Court that gave autonomy of funds to local government councils in the country.

Anthony while reacting to the ruling in a press statement yesterday hailed the administration of President Bola Tinubu, for not only initiating the matter before the highest court in the land but ensuring that the case is concluded logically.

He said the decision of the court, has  birthed a new financial regime for local government areas across the federation.

“This is particularly unique and historical judgement because its a matter previous administrations in the country were unable to achieve in their lifespan. The President and his legal team have successfully righted democracy in Nigeria and we should all be very proud of this achievement.

“This will allow accelarated development at the grassroots level unlike in the past when the Governors just take funds meant for LGAs for things that has nothing to do with the people in the local government areas,” he said.

He called on members of the National Assembly to march the president in history by amending the constitution to allow the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct local council elections from the current arrangement where state electoral bodies conduct councils elections.

Anthony argued that LGA elections in Nigeria today are a total embarrassment of the country and a clear negation to the tenets of democracy and should be discouraged.
