Lungi, Mogadishu, NAF Valley Dominate As CDS Barracks Youth Championship Intensifies

Lungi Barracks, Mogadishu Cantonment and NAF Valley emerged as the standout performers on Day Two of the 2026 CDS Abuja Military Barracks Youth Sports Championship, recording impressive victories across football, volleyball and basketball at the Aguiyi Ironsi Sports Complex, Asokoro, Abuja.

In the men’s football event, Lungi Barracks underlined their title credentials with two emphatic victories, thrashing NAF Base Bill Clinton 5-0 before defeating Gen. Azazi Barracks 3-0 to maintain their unbeaten run.

Gen. Azazi had earlier brushed aside NN Barracks 5-0, while NAF Valley secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Shittu Alao Barracks.

In the men’s volleyball competition, Mogadishu Cantonment continued their fine form with back-to-back victories, defeating Gen. Azazi Barracks 2-0 before edging Mambilla Barracks 2-1 in a keenly contested encounter.

Mambilla had opened the day with a straight-sets 2-0 victory over NAF Base Bill Clinton, while NAF Valley defeated Shittu Alao Barracks 2-0 and Lungi Barracks overcame NN Barracks and NAF Valley by identical 2-0 scorelines.

The women’s volleyball event produced similar results, with Mambilla defeating NAF Base Bill Clinton 2-0 before suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat to Mogadishu.

Mogadishu also recorded a 2-1 win over Gen. Azazi, while Lungi Barracks secured successive 2-0 victories against NN Barracks and NAF Valley. The scheduled fixture between NAF Valley and Shittu Alao Barracks did not hold after Shittu Alao failed to show up.

Action in the men’s basketball competition saw NAF Valley record two victories, beating Shittu Alao Barracks 72-24 before overcoming Mambilla Barracks 39-30.

Lungi Barracks defeated NAF Base Bill Clinton 48-38, NN Barracks overcame Mambilla 41-27, while Mogadishu Cantonment edged Gen. Azazi Barracks 31-30 in one of the day’s closest contests.

NAF Base Bill Clinton bounced back from their opening defeat with a 39-25 victory over Gen. Azazi Barracks.

In the women’s basketball event, NAF Valley were awarded a 20-0 walkover against Shittu Alao before producing a dominant 67-19 victory over Mambilla Barracks.

Lungi Barracks defeated NAF Base Bill Clinton 21-18, Mambilla overcame NN Barracks 37-24, while Gen. Azazi Barracks recorded two convincing wins, beating Mogadishu Cantonment 39-19 and NAF Base Bill Clinton 60-30.

The championship, organised by the Defence Headquarters, continues with athletes from military barracks across the Federal Capital Territory competing for honours in football, basketball, volleyball and other sporting events.
