A person with the zeal to teach and manage can venture into the business of establishing a tutorial centre.

As the tide of unemployment keeps soaring, one of the ways to tackle this problem is establishing a tutorial centre as a business venture.

With the tutorial centre provider having students engaging in after-school classes in their centres, this venture can help them make a decent living and meet their  financial needs.

Speaking with a school administrator, Ngozi Pepple, disclosed that operating a tutorial center is a good business for anyone who has interest in providing good educational services.

While she asserted that a focus on specialised subjects like mathematics and other science subjects would generate a good income for the individual providing the services, she pointed out that, “the tutorial center is a means of employment for graduates who are unemployed and have the capacity to impact knowledge can be engage doe their services.

“Thereby, the tutorial centres can ameliorate the unemployment conundrum in the country, as the genuine tutors will be able to afford the basics of what he/she needs to survive the challenging times.”

Hence, establishing a tutorial centre requires careful planning and consideration

She stressed that location of the tutorial center is vital. Choosing a location that is easily accessible to the target audience, preferably in or near residential areas with high student populations will be the most appropriate decision.  As factors such as proximity to their home, schools and public transportation should be considered at all times.

She added that Identifying your target market, whether it’s primary, secondary, or tertiary students, and determine the specific subjects or areas you will be offering tutorials in while conducting market research to understand the demand for tutorial services in the chosen area.

While developing  a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with the educational standards and requirements of the State is important, ensuring there’s availability of the necessary teaching materials, textbooks, digital resources, and equipment to deliver effective tutorials.

A tutorial centre operator, Kolade Matthew said:” I knew what I wanted to do, so I did a lot of research, competitor analysis and this helped to know the existing tutorial centres around my vicinity and understand their offering, pricing and teaching methods

“This helped in Identifying gaps in the market and finding ways to differentiate my tutorial centre from other competitors by offering specialized courses or providing additional support services like educational materials for,IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, CELPIP amongst others,”

The importance of qualified teaching staff cannot be over-emphasised. In this type of educational business hiring experienced and qualified tutors who have expertise in the subjects you offer will help gain prominence and reputation.

“In my case, I deal with a tutorial centre with teachers in mathematics, chemistry, and physics et al. who are knowledgeable about the curriculum and teaching methods as I conduct thorough background checks and verify their qualifications to maintain the quality of education provided,” he said.

Providing a conducive learning environment with well-equipped classrooms, comfortable seating arrangements, and necessary teaching aids, is ask considered
