The younger brother to the former attorney general of the federation and minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, Alhaji Almustapha Malami, has backed the second term ambition of Governor Nasir Idris in Kebbi State.

Similarly, the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu and Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, endorsing them for a second term in office.

The endorsement was made at the Tinubu/Kaura endorsement programme organised by the NURTW in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, where Governor Idris revealed that his administration has fulfilled about 90 percent of the campaign promises made to the people during the 2023 electioneering period.
Malami’s elder brother and former attorney general, who has been in EFCC detention over financial crimes, is allegedly planning to run for Governor of Kebbi State on the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC).

However, in a declaration, Almustapha Malami, an APC member, said he joined Governor Idris’s re-election bid because of the tremendous achievements recorded within two years of his administration in the Kebbi State.

He said, “Whether we like it or not, Governor Idris has transformed the state capital Birnin Kebbi to a level it deserves to be.

“And if we vote for him again in 2027, Kebbi State will become like a city in London and people will be accommodated,” he added.

He noted that no amount of threats can stop him from campaigning for the incumbent governor.
Receiving him, APC chairman in the state, Alhaji Muhammed Kana Zuru, commended Almustapha’s decisions and assured him that the party will co-opted him in all its activities and programmes and ensure his protection.

In a related development, the NURTW national president, Alhaji Najeem Usman-Yasin, commended the governor for his bold interventions in critical sectors, including the rescue and rehabilitation of rescued girls of the Comprehensive Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.

“We also commend you for the construction of the Central Motor Park, which has no rival, not only in the North-West but in the entire country,” Usman-Yasin said.

He assured the governor of the union’s continued support and cooperation, urging him to sustain the tempo.
“We will continue to support you and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, by the grace of God,” he added.

The union presented awards of excellence to Gov. Idris and President Tinubu in recognition of their performance in infrastructural development, particularly road construction, in the state and the country at large.

Responding however, Governor Idris said, “We are proud of the NURTW because of the support it gave me during my political journey.

“When I was the President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), there was cordial support and cooperation between NUT and NURTW on issues affecting national and members’ interests.”

The governor highlighted the achievements of his administration, including aggressive infrastructural development aimed at making Birnin Kebbi comparable to other state capitals in the country.

“As a government, we have fulfilled about 90 per cent of our campaign promises.

“We recruited teachers, distributed farm inputs to farmers, and provided grains to cushion the effects of economic challenges faced by our people,” he said.
