The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of a man accused of severing his partner’s finger in a suspected domestic violence incident that gained attention on social media.

In a statement issued the agency said it became aware of the case through a viral TikTok video and immediately reached out to the survivor to offer support and ensure the matter was formally reported.

The victim had shared a distressing video on March 22, saying she was receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital while appealing for help.

She explained that she was unable to post more graphic evidence because of platform restrictions and also expressed frustration over what she initially saw as a lack of response from authorities.

According to her account, the suspect allegedly attacked her at her residence, inflicted serious injuries, fled with her child, and continued to issue threats afterward.

She said, “This has actually been going on for a long time… we don’t stay together… I stay on my own while he stays on his own.”

Providing an update on the case, the DSVA said, “We became aware of the video and promptly established contact with the survivor and ensured that the case was formally reported to the appropriate authorities.”

The agency said preliminary findings showed that the incident occurred on March 21, 2026, and was reported to the Tactical Squad at FESTAC Police Station.

It added that the matter is now being handled by the Family Support Unit of the station.

According to the DSVA, the assault caused severe injuries, including the loss of a finger, while the suspect was later apprehended and the case fully investigated by law enforcement authorities.

The agency disclosed that the matter was charged to court on March 25, 2026, at Court 6, MBA Ajegunle, and that the defendant has since been remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre pending further proceedings.

It, however, noted that the court granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties.

The next hearing in the case has been fixed for April 29, 2026.

The DSVA also said the survivor has been referred for psychosocial support to aid her recovery and overall well-being.
