Marseille Eye Adams Return To France After Striker’s 10-Goal La Liga Season

Akor Adams, the Super Eagles striker who set Ligue 1 alight with Montpellier just two seasons ago, is on the verge of a blockbuster return to French football – this time in the iconic white and sky blue of Olympique de Marseille.

The 26-year-old Nigeria international has emerged as a leading transfer target for Marseille’s sporting director, who views Adams as the missing piece in a revamped attack designed to challenge for the 2025/26 Ligue 1 title.

An opening offer of £15.2 million (€18 million) has already been tabled, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, but Sevilla are pushing back.

The Andalusian club, hampered by La Liga’s stringent financial fair play rules, need to sell before they can buy. Yet they believe Adams’ breakout season – 10 goals and three assists as Sevilla’s top league scorer – justifies a price tag closer to £21.1 million (€25 million). With no immediate fire-sale deadline, they are gambling that Marseille will raise their bid rather than walk away.

Adams proved his worth in the clutch last term. His goals weren’t just plentiful; they were decisive, helping Luis Garcia Plaza’s men preserve their top-flight status in a tense relegation battle. His physical profile – rapid off the mark, strong in the air, and increasingly clinical – has only sharpened since his Montpellier days, where he scored 11 times in 47 league appearances.

For Marseille, the allure is obvious. Adams already understands the rhythm and physicality of Ligue 1, having faced many of their domestic rivals. He would arrive as a known quantity, not a gamble. And with Marseille desperate to end PSG’s domestic stranglehold, a proven, prime-age striker with a point to prove could be the perfect catalyst.

All eyes now turn to the negotiation table. If Sevilla blink, the “homecoming” headlines will write themselves. If not, Adams may yet stay in Spain – but Marseille are unlikely to go away quietly.
