Mogadishu Barracks and Lungi Barracks emerged champions in the male and female volleyball events respectively at the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Abuja Military Barracks Youth Championship after thrilling finals on Thursday.
Mogadishu claimed the men’s title with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Lungi in an entertaining final, capping a dominant campaign in the competition. Earlier, Nigerian Navy (NN) Barracks secured third place with a convincing 2-0 win over Mambilla Barracks.
Mogadishu’s outstanding performance was rewarded with the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, which went to jersey number 15, Mosses, following his decisive contributions throughout the championship.
In the women’s competition, Lungi produced a commanding display to defeat Mogadishu 3-0 in the final and lift the title in style.
NN Barracks also finished on the podium after overcoming Gen Azazi Barracks 2-0 in the third-place match.
Lungi’s Anebi Blessing, who wore jersey number three, was named the women’s Most Valuable Player after spearheading her side’s impressive run to the championship.
The volleyball event concluded with high-quality performances and keen competition, highlighting the wealth of young sporting talent within the nation’s military barracks and underscoring the championship’s role in promoting grassroots sports development among Nigerian youths.
