Following the protest that trailed the killing of the district head of Gatawa, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, the Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Police has imposed curfew in Sabon Birnin town of Sokoto state.

The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, announced that movement in the area is restricted between 6am and 6pm until further notice.

The curfew, according to ASP Rufa’i, is aimed at restoring law and order in the troubled community.

Recall that hundreds of youths took to the streets, blocking major roads and setting bonfires in protest, immediately after the funeral prayer for the repose of the soul of the late monarch on Thursday.

Reports indicate that the protesters torched the local government secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and a courtroom.

They also reportedly broke into a local government store, where they destroyed supplies of fertilizer.

The son of the slain district head, Turakin Gobir, informed newsmen that security reinforcements had been deployed to the area.

“We have been hearing gunshots since morning, but the protest is still ongoing, which indicates that the curfew is not yet fully effective.

“The protesters are demanding a thorough investigation into the killing, insisting that those responsible must not escape justice,” he said.

One of the protesters, Aminu Yusuf, called on the federal government to launch an investigation into the brutal murder, alleging that some politicians are being accused of involvement in the incident.

In a short video clip, Kabiru Isa, the son of the slain district head who was recently released by his abductors, accused a member of the State House of Assembly of being responsible for his father’s abduction.
